Welcome to the Wooster Soccer Association Website

This is the official site for Wooster Soccer.   We are located in the Northeast Ohio region, serving Wayne and surrounding counties.  Our club's steady increase in participation constantly stretches the limits of our facilities.  This growth is achieved through the development of quality youth soccer programs over several years, by people dedicated to Wooster Soccer.  Additionally, the influx of youth teams from communities like Chippewa, Cloverleaf, Hiland, Hillsdale, Holmes County, Northwestern, Norwayne, Orrville, Smithville, Rittman, Triway, and Waynedale, have all played a part in the positive growth of the club.  WSA through Wooster Parks and Recreation supports Recreational teams for all ages ... or... whether you call it Select, Premier, Travel or Club – the Wooster Edge teams provide great competition and great training for the player that wants more competition and is willing to make a bigger commitment to soccer.  From kindergarten to the young at heart, Wooster Soccer Welcomes You!

Wooster Edge Fall Soccer

Tremendous turnout for tryouts this week.  Our plan will be to register for the boys at least one team in the U8, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14 age groups and for the girls U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14.  This will make our club the largest and most complete in the history of Wooster Soccer.

Although tryouts are officially over and teams will be finalized over the next month - if there are other new players interested in playing that missed tryouts it is not too late but they need to act quickly.  Please have your player contact friends in any age group that might be interested and have them contact one of the board members listed below and we will conduct special tryouts for these players.  Once teams are formed it will be harder to add - so please make the calls today.

For Select/Premier type soccer - Wooster Edge is the most affordable alternative.  Wooster Edge is able to keep costs affordable through it’s affiliation with the City of Wooster Parks & Rec Dept; Corporate Sponsors and Fundraisers.  The objective is to offer what a private club can offer for an affordable fee.  Wooster Edge is a Non-Profit 501-C3 organization.

The Edge offers top notch training and competition playing in both the American Amateur Soccer League (boys) and the Northern Ohio Girls Soccer League (girls).  Included in your fees besides games and team training are Monday night footskills; Friday night Goalkeeper training; and many of the teams utilize HealthPoint’s Speed & Agility Training.

Edge Continues to Upgrade Coaching

Edge Continues to Upgrade Coaching

The goal of the Wooster Edge is to provide the best training to players in the Wooster area.   All Edge coaches are required to receive a coaching license within their first year of coaching.  To receive a coaching license, the coach must go through an intensive hands-on course of the latest training techniques.

In addition to licensing – in 2008 the club has put in place other measures to insure that Edge players receive the best training in Wooster:

·         Kim Shaw was named Director of Coaching and Player Development in 2008.  Kim’s soccer background is tremendous – click on this link for bio:  http://www.woostersoccer.com/Page.asp?n=12005&snid=189706087&org=woostersoccer.com

·         Last season, Wooster Edge named Fred Meindl as the Keeper trainer for the club.    Fred’s bio is in the same link as Kim’s above.  Fred conducts weekly keeper sessions in the fall and spring season (included in registration fees) and for a reasonable additional fee in the winter.

·         This winter, Graham Ford has begun a series of coaching clinics for Edge coaches.  All coaches, assistant coaches and parents are welcome to attend these clinics.  Graham is the women’s coach at the College of Wooster and director of the Pennine Soccer Club.  If you are interested in attending one of these sessions, contact anyone on the WSA board.  Click here for Graham’s bio:  http://www.wooster.edu/athletics/ms/coach.php

·         Edge continues to offer free footskills training to Edge players year round.  Coach Les (WHS women’s coach) conducts these weekly training sessions.

·         Last fall, the Edge has started a relationship with Wooster Community Hospital’s Health Point.  Health Point is conducting Speed and Agility sessions with some of our teams (included in the registration fee – no additional cost).  Health Point is also a sponsor of the Wooster Soccer Association.

·         Over the past year, the Edge has started to hire paid coaches to coach teams and/or provide supplemental professional training for teams.

The goal of the Edge is to provide the highest training possible in the Wooster area and at the same time maintain the very reasonable registration fees as in the past.
